Definition of Adjuvant Therapy

In oncology, the term adjuvant therapy refers to a form of therapy, that is carried out following after curative therapy. Adjuvant treatment aims to eliminate undetected tumor (micrometastases or residual tumor) and to improve the long-term prognosis.

In oncology and clinical praxis, the term and definition of adjuvant therapy has to be seperated from neoadjuvant therapy and palliative therapy.
