Inguinal Lymphadenopathy: Differential Diagnosis of Groin Lumps

Ultrasound of an enlarged inguinal lymph node: a typical image of a benign lymph node enlargement (length 20 mm) with a regular oval-shaped lymph node with an echogenic center (fatty degeneration). Signs of malignant lymphadenopathy are lymph nodes with irregular hypoechoic areas, round lymph nodes, and irregularly shaped lymph nodes.
Differential Diagnosis of Inguinal Lymphadenopathy
- Reactive lymph node enlargement
- Genital infections: syphilis, genital herpes, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum, granuloma inguinale.
- Malignant tumors: lymphoma, leukemia, penile cancer, melanoma of the penis or lower extremity.
- Systemic infections: mononucleosis, HIV and AIDS, CMV, measles, ...
- Sarcoidosis
