Congenital Meatal Stenosis

The failed regression of the distal urethral membrane causes symptoms of subvesical obstruction or recurrent urinary tract infections. The distal urethral membrane is the border between the ingrown ectodermal tissue of the glans and endodermal tissue of the urethral mucosa.

By dilatation with bougie-a-boule, the meatal stenosis can be objectified. Treatment consists of the ventral incision of the membrane. Therapeutically important is the distinction of the acquired meatal stenosis, since this disease needs a more complex surgical treatment.
